The wave of drug cartel violence has increased the number of critics of the strategy that President Felipe Calderón is using to combat this scourge, plus the addition the weakness of the economy, are among the reasons that Peña Nieto is up in the polls, according to analysts.
Editors Note: The PRI candidate has said he will stand down the Army. This could bring an end to the violence in Mexico.
